Bequests and Planned Giving

A number of members and friends have generously remembered the Society in their estate planning over the years and their unrestricted gifts have helped us grow our programming and collections.

Gift planning is a great way to make a lasting contribution to the Harrison Township Historical Society while taking advantage of favorable Federal and State tax laws.  Two easy ways for planned giving are through bequests and naming of a beneficiary.  Bequests are made through wills or living trusts.  The Society can also be named as a beneficiary of a retirement plan, insurance policy or other financial asset.  Attorneys and estate planners can provide assistance and discuss appropriate options.

The Society’s continued growth and prosperity depend upon the participation and generosity of its members and friends.  A bequest is not only a personal legacy.  It is thoughtful way to reflect your desire to inspire current and future generations to learn from and value their history – and create their own legacies.

Donations to the Collections

We have been able to build its collections largely through the donations of members and friends.

The Society collects objects, books and archival materials that provide insights into our history and:

• Help document and describe the existence of people who lived in Harrison Township and environs from prehistoric times to the present;

• Were created and/or used by people from Harrison Township and environs;

• Are representative of those made and/or used by people from Harrison Township and environs.

Objects, books and archival materials must have at least two or more of the following attributes in order to be added to the collection:

• A particular or peculiar historic connection with Harrison Township and environs;

• Exhibition, research or programming potential;

• Represent the best of a particular craftsman’s work;

• High aesthetic merit;

• Be of a physical condition and size suitable for the Society’s storage and climate.

The Society defines Harrison Township’s environs as the area encompassed within the township’s 1844 borders, namely South Harrison Township as well as Ferrell, Wright’s Mill, Pine Tavern and all of Ewan and Lake Gilman in Elk Township.

If you have materials that you think are of interest to the Society’s collections, please email us or 856-478-4949, or visit the Museum during regular hours.
